Instagram now allows five hashtags. Not thirty.
Instagram announced on 19 December 2025 that captions on posts and Reels would be limited to five hashtags, and rolled it out globally through 2026. The cap counts the caption and the comments together, so the old trick of hiding thirty tags in the first comment does nothing at all.
Which means almost every hashtag list on the web, including the ones ranking above this page, recommends a number you can no longer publish. A list of thirty is now a rotation pool rather than a block to paste, and that is exactly how this dataset is built: a starter set per platform sized to the real limit, then a ranked pool behind it so you can swap one or two per post instead of repeating yourself.

Four things this dataset does that the spam sites do not
No invented tags
Every one of the 511 tags was seen in real use during research on 1 August 2026: trade press, supplier and field service software blogs, platform discover pages, hashtag directories and live captions. If it was not observed, it is not here.
No post counts
The directory sites that publish counts disagreed with each other by an order of magnitude on the same tag during research, and one of them returned identical figures for three unrelated tags. Tiers here are stated as what they are, an editorial judgement from cross source frequency.
44 flagged tags, named
Instagram publishes no official banned list and gives no warning when a tag is restricted. Each trade page names the flagged tags that trade is most likely to reach for, and tells you the thirty second check you can run yourself, because these lists rotate.
Captions written per platform
450 caption templates, and no template appears on two pages. An Instagram caption, a TikTok caption and a Facebook caption are different jobs, and reusing one set across three pages would be padding rather than a dataset.

- How many hashtags can you use on Instagram in 2026?
- Five. Instagram announced the change on 19 December 2025 and rolled it out globally through 2026, and it applies to captions on both posts and Reels. The caption and the comments count together, so putting tags in the first comment does not give you extra slots. Anything above five is blocked at publish or stripped.
- How many hashtags should you use on TikTok?
- Three to five. TikTok publishes no cap, and it has said that completion rate and share rate drive distribution rather than tag count. Tags categorise the video, they do not amplify it.
- Do hashtags work on Facebook?
- Barely. Facebook has no hashtag browsing culture worth the name and page reach comes from shares, local groups and comments instead. Two or three cost nothing and can occasionally surface in a local search. The caption does the work there, which is why the Facebook caption templates on this site are the longest of the three.
- Where do these hashtags come from?
- Every tag was seen in real use during a research sweep on 1 August 2026, across trade press, supplier and field service software blogs, platform discover pages, hashtag directories and live captions. Nothing was invented. Post counts are deliberately not published, because the directory sites that quote them contradicted each other by an order of magnitude on the same tag.
